Waste Policy

Waste Policy

Protecting the environment

Deveron District Age Concern operates a minimal waste policy and aims to sell or repurpose all goods donated.

REUSE

We have an impressive range of donated clothes and items for sale in our shop. A good example of the circular economy resource reuse.

REPURPOSING

Not all donations are suitable for reselling:
  • We work with Banff & Macduff Mens Shed to turn unwanted crockery into bird feeders and plate stands.
  • Our Volunteers are very good at packaging and wrapping small items together to be sold as gifts.

UNFIT FOR SALE

  • Damaged clothing and unsellable textiles are 'sold on'.
  • Surplus or unsuitable books are also sold on.
  • Specialist items, unsuitable for our shop are advertised or offered to specialist traders.

RECYCLING

Inevitably, we have to take some items for disposal. But we try to minimise the amount by identifying new uses for unwanted items. We are very good at Recycling and Upcycling for the community!

We try to find a good home for all donations and turn them into community benefits!

We continually look for ways to further expand our recycling and upcycling capabilities but this can not be done alone, we need your help. If you have an idea or suggestion that you would like to bring forward, then please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
